About Webflow
Webflow is a visual development tool rather than a website builder. The canvas is a real box model: the panels manipulate flexbox, grid, positioning and breakpoints directly, and the output is genuine HTML and CSS rather than a proprietary rendering layer. That distinction explains both who loves it and who bounces off it.
The core is the Designer, plus a CMS whose collections turn a static layout into a templated blog, careers page or case-study library that a marketer can update without touching structure. Interactions and animations are unusually capable for a no-code tool, hosting runs on a fast global network with SSL handled, and the platform has added Logic for automation, Localization for multi-language sites and an AEO layer aimed at how AI answer engines read a page.
Two honest limitations. First, the learning curve is real: Webflow is CSS in a graphical interface, so it rewards anyone who understands the underlying model and frustrates anyone who wanted the Squarespace experience. Second, the billing catches everybody. Webflow charges twice, once for Site plans per published site and again for Workspace seats per collaborator, and a first invoice is often double what somebody budgeted. Code export exists but leaves the CMS behind, so the escape hatch is narrower than it looks.
Pricing: in May 2026 the former CMS and Business site plans were merged into a single Premium plan. Basic is 15 dollars a month billed yearly, or 25 monthly, and does not include the CMS. Premium is 25 dollars a month billed yearly, or 39 monthly, including 20,000 CMS items and 40 collections. Team is around 2,500 a month on an annual contract. On the Workspace side, seats beyond the one included cost 39 dollars a month for a full seat and 15 for a content-editor seat.
The comparison set: Framer is faster to learn and more designer-friendly but thinner at CMS depth; WordPress with a builder is cheapest in licence and heaviest in maintenance; Squarespace and Wix trade control for simplicity; Ghost is the better publishing tool; Carrd handles a single page for a few dollars a year; a headless setup pairing Payload or Sanity with Astro or Next.js gives the most control and needs a developer.
Choose Webflow when marketing has to ship pages without waiting on engineering, the pages need to look genuinely designed, and somebody on the team is willing to learn how CSS actually works.
