Documenso is an open-source document-signing platform - an alternative to DocuSign for teams that want electronic signatures without handing every contract they sign to a closed third-party service. Open source matters more here than in most categories, and it is worth being precise about why. There are templates for repeated agreements and an API for embedding signing into your own product, which is a common reason startups adopt it - signing becomes a feature of your application rather than a redirect to someone else's. Pricing is freemium: the software is free to self-host, and a hosted cloud tier removes the operational work for teams that would rather pay than run it. Against DocuSign and Adobe Sign, the trade is maturity and enterprise integration depth against cost, transparency, and control - the incumbents are considerably more expensive and considerably more entrenched, with per-envelope pricing that punishes volume. Against Dropbox Sign or PandaDoc, the comparison is similar, with PandaDoc adding proposal and quoting workflows that Documenso does not attempt. Against self-hosting nothing and emailing PDFs back and forth, almost anything is better. Choose Documenso when you sign enough documents for per-envelope pricing to hurt, when you need signing inside your own product, or when where the documents live is a question you have to answer to someone.
